Knox Co. Smoking Cessation

Smoking Cessation, on staying smoke free.

The first step to staying smoke free is to keep your guard up.  Avoid certain places, or situations where you know you will have a craving to smoke.  For instance, a bar that allows smoking may not be the best place to eat a quick meal.  The second step to staying smoke free is to fight the urge.  It will be tempting to give in when a craving hits, but the longer you go without the more that craving will fade.  The third step to staying smoke free is to stay upbeat.  The first few weeks will be the hardest.  If you give in once, don’t put yourself down.  This is a learning process and it takes some time to accomplish.  The fourth step is to reward yourself for staying smoke free.  Buy a little something with the money you’ve saved from not buying cigarettes. The fifth and final step is to lean on someone for support.  Don’t be afraid to turn to a loved one when you need it most.  This is not a sign of weakness.  This simply means you are a human being.
